agreed... as do the bbc....it became a sackable offence when she failed to fess up and take her words back. Clearly as pig headed as her mum. I've seen her on one panel show after another.... she seems like a stuck up prig more at home in an office than as an entertainer.... no great loss. I 'm blown away by all the supporters she clearly has here on tibb hehe

Maybe, but the BBC could have handled it better.... for example they could have gave her a final warning telling she had to apologize on air, wait for her to refuse and then give her another warning and sack her. However it looks like they just sacked her, they could have been more professional about it.

The BBC looks like it run by people with little or no knowledge of basic management skills. I wouldn't be surprised if they have opened themselves up to an unfair dismissal claim.

That's very true, it would be more honest to call it the BBC License fee since it pays nearly exclusively for the BBC TV output and Radio (which is often forgotten by many people).

You might think this is funny and just a joke, but it doesnt prove to be right. What it proves, is there are still lots of people in this society who think this kind of stuff is acceptable! Anonymous just make it easier. The people who complain of her sacking or support, like someone says are outraged that they cant be allowed to make racist statements like that, and pretend its just a joke!

Even more outrageous to me, is to find out it was being sold in a royal shop, with no one ever saying something about it until now!

This is why its good to know what youre talking about before making statements! There are black dolls. Lots of them. These dolls arent considered racist because they are black! Go read the history about it, before just making yourself sound like a biggot, or just plain ignorant!

Yes I know exactly the connotations associated with golliwogs, I just don't think because someone has said it it has to be racist. From what I've read Carol said "he looks like a golliwog", not "he is a golliwog". Now to say someone/thing looks like a golliwog isn't racist, although it is in murky waters. If a ban is on saying people look like one then lets ban every similar comparison that we can make (e.g. people looking like Big-Ears off Noddy, it might be offensive to those with big ears!!), because it must manage to offend someone somewhere.

I think its fine to make a comparison based on appearance. However my viewpoint would be completely different if it appeared she targetted him and called him a golliwog as an insult, not saying it as an observation, in jest whatever.
