Much like the rest of the season so far, I enjoyed that episode (well, up until the... slightly less light-hearted bit at the end. That's right, the reemergence of Jeff Probst: The Talk Show), although I had an operation today so that might just be the local anesthetic talking

I'd heard spoilers regarding Zeke being outed, but I wasn't expecting to stumble across it as fact on BBC News (!!!) before I'd even watched the show. I can't really offer anything that hasn't already been said, and since it took place nine-odd months ago and everyone involved is an adult, I'm sure there's little point in trying to dig much deeper into it

Anyway, yay for the next time preview guaranteeing Cirie a confessional and Sierra an episode title!

I honestly feel so bad for Jeff. I know that's not what any right-minded person is supposed to infer from the ordeal, but the fact that this issue has reached international news when he was borderline suicidal is scary.

Wow, I'm really stunned by what happened at TC. While Jeff was undeniably in the wrong I think the whole thing has been blown out of proportion and I do feel an immense amount of sympathy for him. The TC was very uncomfortable and while Zeke handled it very well I did think Probst was such a DICK throughout it all.

Jeff was in the wrong but ffs people have done worse things and got away with it. I hope the thing dies down soon.

Everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt especially for a one-off incident. Even though it's not right to Zeke that he was outed in such a way, that really sucks for Varner for this to make national/international news headlines when he's probably had to deal with it enough already.

Well that was...powerful. And uncomfortable. I'm still kinda reeling from the episode to be honest.

I actually feel the most for Varner? Given both his immediate reaction at tribal and today's press it's clear that what he did wasn't from a place of malice, just one of desperation, wrapped up in a game where you could argue there aren't many 'lines' in terms of what is and isn't acceptable (see: Jonny Fairplay). It astounds me that he ever thought it'd be a good idea, but then I've never played Survivor before. I've liked him on all his seasons, especially this one - and was really hoping he'd finally make the jury as he so longed for, it's just such a shame that his experience had to end like this, in a gross and awkward situation which I don't think truly reflects him as a person. I very much doubt he'll ever be invited back or indeed want to return, and that's sad.

Zeke handled himself with dignity and composure that many would have struggled with, and for that I only have respect. Hopefully this incident (which was edited and handled beautifully, btw) will in the long run prove to be a small part of a greater good.

Performative speech sure is powerful.

Am I right in thinking they teased that this season with 'one Survivor will do something that will have America talking'? I rewatched the preview at the MvsGX reunion but it wasn't there...maybe I'm thinking of an older season.

I'm so sick of Reddit capriciously applying moral outrage whenever it suits them best. Every damn thread is Poor Jeff Varner, He Is The True Victim when..... no. Not at all. Jeff didn't even seem to realize that what he did was wrong until well after everyone started yelling at him. And that's even more embarrassing when you remember Jeff's ambiguous sexuality back when Australian Outback aired and how much of a ****ing grey area that was back in the early 2000s.

I think that was the BrainvBeautyvBrawn 2. I think the thing that would have everyone talking was the med evac of Caleb and the other medical injuries the same episode.

Caught up earlier and I didn't like what Varner did and i don't feel sorry for him at all (it shouldn't be international news though and i hope he learnt his lesson) but it was gross. and a disgusting thing to do.

It seems he only realised it was bad when people were yelling at him. He should have thought before he spoke.

^ I agree that I think he only apologized cause everyone was yelling at him. However, I do kind of believe his point in that it could have been advertised that Zeke was the first trans-gendered Survivor player. Looking at Aubry from BBUS, they advertised that from the beginning and it seemed like she wasn't planning to tell anyone for a while. I'm also thinking of people like Kenny from BBCAN who hide their sexuality for "strategic reasons"
