i want to know what the rioters and those that support them expect to achieve. The immigrants are here and they can't do anything about that now. What does attacking them and or the police and or property achieve?

It's not going to change the mind of the government. What may change the governments mind is peaceful protest against the government, If the numbers are big enough, maybe they will listen. Violence and destruction wont achieve anything

They believe that it'll force the government to stop further immigration "better" and crack down on asylum seekers / limit numbers more etc.

Usually peddling myths like "the country's FULL"

...and failing to realise that if we halt or reduce net migration our aging population will economically destroy the country. Tee hee. . They won't even "get it" then though they'll just blame immigrants for that, too. Or maybe disabled people or something.

I think there's probably a few different explanations:

- the violence is an end in itself as an outlet for suppressed rage. Bit like football hooliganism
- it'll create an atmosphere of intimidation and fear for migrant communities and other races. Make them more reluctant to walk the streets, open businesses, stay in the country etc.
- some of the very hardcore Nazis genuinely want a race war and think this will advance that

They're not really interested in influencing government policy. Many of these rioters would be more than happy to see all our institutions crumble

A phobia isn't an illness it's a firmly ingrained set of usually-incorrect beliefs either conscious or subconscious, that will have a root cause. In the case of xenophobia, that root cause is often "scary stories" and propaganda.

Also phobias are irrational fears and can be rationalised and if not removed, at least put in proper context.

Severe phobias will often involve a trauma response and that's a bit trickier to deal with, you can't just think your way out of trauma, HOWEVER it's extremely unlikely that the vast majority of xenophobia is trauma-based. It's indoctrinated.

In the context of almost every modern event, "right" and "left" have been almost entirely meaningless. They've become loose catch-all terms for a clear social division that has piss all to do with the classic 4-point political compass.
