Doesn't matter whether she wanted it for pain or not - she was fully entitled to use it and be dispensed the contraceptive pill for the purpose for which it is intended!

I hope the right actions are taken against the pharmacist. It's completely ridiculous.

I would like to know what religion prevents the dispensing of legally prescribed drugs.

Depends on the school of Islam they follow, in most contraception is allowed for valid reasons, one of them being health. The only agreed case where contraception should not be used is if the decision is delay children is based on finances, because the Muslims believe god will provide.

Nope I dont know of any papal bull(proclamation from the pope) saying catholic pharmacists cannot dispense some types of drugs. contraceptive or otherwise.
In fact the only decrees from the Vatican say Catholics should not use unnatural contraceptive methods. This lady was using a drug, that happens to be used for birth control to help ease her endometriosus. Selling, dispensing or otherwise handling them of contraceptives wasnt ever taught to be against the church. otherwise the barber we used to use when I was a kid would have been well in the clag.in fact I remeber him saying just after he had finished on the parish priests hair "Sure you will not be wanting anything for the weekend this time round Father?" |

A pharmaceuticals company has launched an investigation after a woman was refused the contraceptive pill because it was against the pharmacist's religion to give it to her.
Janine Deeley was turned away by the female chemist at Lloyds pharmacy in Duke Street, Sheffield, when she went to pick up her routine prescription of the medication. The mother-of-two was taken into a private room by the employee and told she would not be given the tablets on religious grounds but she could come back the next day when a different pharmacist was working and pick them up. Ms Deeley, 38, of Wybourn, said she was furious she was not allowed her prescription, especially because she used it to treat endometriosis and not as a method of birth control. She told the Sheffield Star: "I shouldn't have to explain myself to her. "I was so angry I didn't really know what to do." Ms Deeley also said she was worried teenagers like her two daughters, Carlie, 18, and 14-year-old Lauren, might not be able to protect against pregnancy if faced with such issues. She added: "There's a lot of things in society you might not like or agree with, but you can't do anything about them." A spokeswoman for Lloyds pharmacy said she was not aware which religion the pharmacist belonged to and an investigation into Ms Deeley's complaint had been launched. She said: "Lloyds pharmacy is very sorry that Ms Deeley was refused supply of her prescribed contraceptive pill at our Duke Street pharmacy. We have launched an investigation into the incident and been in contact with her to apologise for any distress and inconvenience caused." http://www.google.com/hostednews/ukp...iLgCyyW0N043IA -- What a load of bull! This pharmacist should be sacked. Never mix work and religion, especially when it's concerning another person's health.

There. Will you respect my beliefs? |

This incident is similar to one I heard of several years ago, before the end of the apartheid regime in South Africa where there was segregation and white minority rule. During that time there were calls for sanctions against South Africa, but Mrs Thatcher refused point blank to carry them out.
In this case, in the uk a supermarket checkout operator refused point blank to sell to a customer a grapefruit because it was from South Africa and she deeply believed that there should be a boycott of all South African goods. Moving on to today and religion, I understand that in the medical profession there is a get out clause so professionals can opt out of abortion proceses on grounds of concience I am wondering if this pharmacist believed they had the same rights here Incidentally the story in full here
