Person of 'authority' tell you it might be a good idea to do a certain task

You carry out task but make a ridiculous mistake that you should KNOW not to do...

It goes wrong because of your mistake and you get injured.

Its the person who advised you to do said tasks fault? Or your fault for being stupid?
