I do think people are underestimating the fact you rarely really see how much of an arsehole someone can be until you are in the relationship though.

This is true, but I do think some people are so desperate to find "the one" that they jump into bed/move in together/ make babies far too quickly. I think its important to take time and find out if you acually are compatable first. A partner has to be a best friend too.

I have to say that I've never found males to be idiots. Quite the reverse... I've always got on far better with males, but then maybe I've used good judgement on which ones to associate with. I find males - at least the ones I've known - to be quite open, straightforward and easy to get along with. Whereas women in my experience tend to be far more complicated, a lot more hard work and with a special inbuilt ability to be able to add two and two and come up with twenty two.

I have to agree, I find men to have much less of an agenda really in most things. I think the OP has been unlucky so far if all she has met are losers.
