Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the grift - most people would dismiss and roll their eyes about inappropriate comments or questions from a decrepit old fossil; it takes a special kind of mind to use it as an opportunity for publicity and money-making.

Of course I do but some people won’t be listening either way so beyond the little I’ve already said I’m just going to let my sentiments be reflected in what most other people have written in this thread. I’m not getting into any long-drawn debate tonight.

If you can just answer the question above honestly, that will do for me my friend.

['Consider the legacy of colonialism and racism':
Black reverend opens William and Kate's Earthshot
event with awkward lecture on historic
prejudice - just HOURS after Palace race scandal
triggered by Prince's own godmother]

[ Reverend Mariama White-Hammond was one
of several speakers at the Earthshot Prize launch
in Boston on Wednesday,
when she made a speech that included comments
on the impact of racism on climate change

She told the crowd to 'consider the legacy of
colonialism and racism',
adding that it has impacted people across the world'
Caroline Kennedy, daughter of
late President JFK, whose Moonshot speech inspired
Earthshot, was meant to be in attendance however
she was unable to attend due to 'disrupted travel plans'
Similarly, John Kerry, presidential envoy for climate,
was due to be in attendance, but informed the
Prince and Princess earlier today that he would
'sadly no longer be able to attend'
Prince William and Kate Middleton touched down
in Boston on Wednesday afternoon and were
greeted by Governor Baker of Massachusetts
amid a furious Buckingham Palace race row*

William's godmother Lady Susan Hussey
was accused of making racist comments
to black domestic abuse
campaigner Ngozi Fulani at an event
hosted by Queen Consort Camilla
on Tuesday night]

Richard Kay's take

[Lady Susan Hussey will be mortified

if it were one simple question it would be harmless, but this seems to have gone on and on which does put a different slant on it

To be fair, she phased the question totally wrong.

The lady was wearing 'traditional dress' I believe. All the Queen's dogsbody had to say was 'which country is that traditional dress from?'

But of course even that, an appropriate question, could be thought of as 'racist.

I do believe the woman who complained was deliberately being awkward. Why wear 'traditional dress' if you want to dissociate yourself from it?

No.

People can wear what they like without having to explain themselves. That lady could wear clothing which originates from any culture, and it wouldn't give people the right to question her.

Of course you can wear what you like...however if you were making small talk to a person you have never met before and he is wearing a Kilt...would it not be an inevitable question to ask what part of Scotland are you from??
Are you not considered to be making a statement if you are in the National attire of a country?
The woman was 89...it was time for her to step down but how sad that after all these years of service she will be remembered as being 'Racist'...It has been a complete over reaction...and it seems her apology just is not good enough.

Well the Royals have a bit of a mess here on this one.

The constant questioning is unnecessary and inappropriate.
Really would have been better had this lady not raised the issue at all.

I just can't see the point of even asking these questions in the first place.
Ask about the charity yes.
Not go into a personal questioning route.

Also, have to agree with others arista, this thread title is more like a riddle, sorry for that.

Would it be racist to ask Cliff Richard, which part of England he came from?

By this logic, it would. That's how silly you are and this is.

Asking a question is not racism. We ask questions as humans to find out information.

The rest of the World is laughing at how silly you are.

By all grounds of logic one would have to account for the fact that "English" isn't a race and that there's a very specific issue of black people being asked that question with blatantly-racist intentions at play. If you're from a different world or don't have much real experience with black friends/racism and whatnot it's quite alright not to get it or understand completely but it's not okay to indirectly gaslight this woman just because her experience of (not even very subtle) racism doesn't resonate with your understanding of racism as a middle-aged white man from Hull. Chances are it most-definitely won't but there's a way to hold space for people talking about things you don't fully understand without calling them over-sensitive snowflakes.

Familiar response on here. She's over reacting, shes lying, we only have on e side of the story.

Noted that only a few are saying that Lady whatever shouildnt have interrogated her. Familiar sad response.

There is no correct response. Its just sad to see the same thing over and over again.

How many think she over reacted? We should start a poll

arista:

"Royal aide to Prince William resigns after alleged racism"

^ that sells the story well enough and that's all you need to say for the title.

You're going to have to ignore what other people are bait-suggesting about us only having one side of the story. We've read/seen enough.
