Oh I see, like literally I think Starmer thinks people are stupid, he cannot explain how it will stop the boats just faffed around talking absolute rubbish, the budget is going to be even trickier for them now if they raise taxes all hell will break loose

My thinking is they would have done this during Covid but they underestimated how skeptical people became so quickly and knew it wouldn't pass. But the scaremongering about a Glastonbury field of migrants coming into the country in the last 6 years has done the trick.
Except for the part where everyone is against it and will vote him out come the next General Election.

Nobody wants to be like China or Russia if you're from a so-called democratic country, Labour will find that out come 2029.

Yes he read the room completely incorrectly. Unsurprisingly. I feel like everything he implements is to win favour from voters rather than because he thinks it would be good for the country, which might not be the worst tactic if he could read the room but it still makes him inauthentic as ****.

…I honestly feel as though he’s not going to be the country leader for very long so might as well whizz himself up into some outrage controversy…at least it’ll be colourful than beige and give him something to chat about in interviews/books/whatever after his leadership time…I mean, if he wasn’t attracting social media/public chattering…(…for negative reasons…)…would we even know who the current PM was…

Exactly on both points.

I just wish that this country could have a decent PM, just one time in my lifetime.

labour mp's themselves have said this is just the beginning, it will lead to all sorts of wonderful things. I even heard 1 mp say that google and facebook were capturing users data, why should the government be left behind

the id card is another method of large scale data collection. Saying other methods already exist so why complain isn't addressing the issue. Every data collection method brings new data to the table, it serves to complete the picture that the government has on everyone. It's also not sensible to only look at the implications now, it needs to be viewed in what could happen in 5 or 10 years down the line when systems are developed to take advantage of it

Exactly, what's to stop them taking it to the next level?

Nobody should accept such a dystopian policy imo.

Petition against ID cards almost 2.2 million. Also put this in the 'Starmer's woes' thread, sorry for the duplication.

All the current leaders around the world surround themselves with yes "people" and thats why stupid stuff ends up being done. When I look back to Thatchers cabinet, they were all intellectuals with a mind of their own. It was only in the latter years that she started ignoring everone elses opinion, but power gets to them all eventually

…are they yes people or are they AI think tanks…maybe there is a ‘how to run a country for a week’ digital programme that has been adopted by current country leaders…

Government to consult on Digital IDs for 13-year-olds

[The government will consult on whether children
aged between 13 and 16-years-old should
be included in the digital ID roll-out.

There has been a backlash to the Prime Minister
Sir Keir Starmer's announcement that
a UK-wide digital ID scheme will be introduced
before 2029, with a petition attracting nearly three
million signatures.
An official response to that petition confirmed
the consultation will also consider whether
to make digital ID available to children
aged 13 years old and up.

Under the government plans, digital ID
will be available to all UK citizens and legal
residents but only mandatory in order to work.
It will be optional for students, pensioners
or others not seeking work.
The UK Parliament petition opposes the creation
of any national ID system and demands
the government ditch its plans,
which petitioners claim
"would be a step towards mass surveillance
and digital control".]

[Digital ID cards could be needed to buy
a pint in the pub, as ministers are accused
of taking a 'Big Brother approach'
to civil liberties]

I thought ID cards were only to be used to apply for jobs, even though we have plenty ways of proving right to work as it stands, why do 13 year olds need them

He can't keep his argument straight.

Which should worry everyone that lives in this country.

Exclamation

It's starting, food is being labelled with your daily carbon allowance information,
just a few weeks after Digital ID was announced.

Because everything will be linked to your Digital ID, including your carbon
allowance. What happens at your allowance limit for the day/week/month?
