I just don't understand his logic. If he thinks there is a war to be fought against muslims.. then why is he doing terrorist attacks against his own people?? If he hates muslim's so much, why didn't he go to a MUslim country, and commit a terrorist attack against Muslims??

That would make a lot more sense. It would still be horrible, but at least it would make sense.

I don't understand what he thought he would accomplish by killing his own people.

He doesn't intend this to be the end of things though, or for it just to be a one off, it's the reason he gave himself up when normally gunman shoot themselves or take on the police, he thinks he'll now have a platform to spread his message and he claims to have two other cells working with him. I was reading that Islam is now the secnd largest faith in Norway. The kids he killed were in a group that was part of the ruling party, who had relaxed immigration and allowed a lot more Muslims into the country. But really, who knows what goes through the mind of someone like that?
