Hands off my Brick!

I've seen a lot of people say that if Will hadn't done that no one would even have remembered the joke 5 minutes later and it's so true, a lot of people either wouldn't have got it because they hadn't heard of GI Jane or would have just thought it was because Jada shaved her head as a style choice and it was a pretty tame and not that funny a joke (me, I had to Google what was offensive about it) I mean if Chris genuinely didn't know about her condition either he must have been really confused because it was really light in that case. And tbh if you look at Chris reaction it would lean more on the side of him not knowing because he did seem really confused about why Will got so angry
As a side note, Jada looked gorgeous with shaved head, it would never have occurred to me that she shaved because of a condition, I would have just thought it was a style choice

The thing is Niamh ,yes Chris Rock might not have known about Jada's condition ..but at the same time the joke was a silly one. And even if it was a style choice ( which plenty do just decide to shave their hair) why did he feel the need to comment on her hair. But Will Smith should never have lashed out in violence. He could have just used his words back. Be smart & not used his hands. He could have just said he didn't find the joke funny, and mentioned Jada's condition. Then I think Rock would have felt bad & maybe even apologised, who knows. Chris Rock is fortunate it wasn't cancer & chemotherapy Jada was going through. Thankfully alopecia isn't life threatening, but people will still be conscious and it's still a sensitive personal thing. |

its being blown up out of all proportion, she looked great, GI Jane looked great, he wasn't comparing her to anything or anyone ugly, people are now saying she has a disability....its a condition folks, an auto immune condition and the body can learn to deal with it and people with the condition can have their hair grow back, I think his reaction was well OTT and nobody should be able to walk on stage like that and assault another person and get away with it, he should have been asked to leave on the night

I keep changing my mind whether this was a set up or not.
The thing that makes me think it was a set up was Chris Rock leaning slightly forward and the way his hands stay behind his back. Normally it's instinct to protect yourself with your hands when someone is coming at you like that. Last edited by Alf; 29-03-2022 at 12:22 PM. |

The joke was fine. The audience were laughing and that was Chris Rocks job.

I can't believe I've only just noticed Chris Rock has his hands behind his back , I totally missed that yesterday
![]() I don't know what to believe anymore. Originally I thought it was a set up, then I thought it looked genuine. But now I don't know. Last edited by GoldHeart; 29-03-2022 at 12:28 PM. |

The thing is, maybe he had an envelope in his hand (not sure, I'll have to re-watch) but still, a usual reaction would be to protect yourself with your hands. His just stay behind his back until he's been slapped.

If someone hits you or if you feel threatened, then of course the nature reaction is to put your hands up ,so yeah I'm perplexed at Chris Rock's posture. It's possible he just wanted to let Will Smith get his anger out,but still it's odd that his hands looked tied behind his back
![]() This is an extreme example but even when someone gets beaten with a weapon, their natural instinct is to protect their head & face with their hands. It might not do you any good... and just get you more battered & bruised with broken hands, but that's still your first reaction ![]() Last edited by GoldHeart; 29-03-2022 at 12:52 PM. |

I doubt he was expecting to be slapped, Smith didn't approach looking like he was going to slap him, it was all smiles from Rock

He knew some confrontation was about to happen though, can hear Rock saying " oh no " as Smith approaches. But the slap happened fairly quickly.

The reaction of his hands is really slow though. And the leaning forward and gritted teeth from the still shots pre slap make it look suspiciously set-up. But like I say, I keep changing my mind whether it was or not.

But why on Earth would will agree to stage something like that, it doesn't benefit him in any way, he's already one of the biggest stars in Hollywood and has a great reputation, he's already popular enough, all this "stunt" would (and has) is damage his stock

He has form for "slapping" though, have you seen the video of him slapping a reporter few years ago?

That so called 'reporter' had prankster troll vibes written all over him, doubt he was a genuine interviewer. He tried to invade Smith's personal space , and It was only a tap on the cheek that Smith gave him. It was hardly a proper slap.

I also found it fairly odd that no security reacted. Will Smith could have pulled a knife or a gun out for all anyone knew.
The security people need to answer questions. Last edited by Alf; 29-03-2022 at 12:45 PM. |
