Bringing Clara back for a quick scene makes sense, Rose appeared in 10's last episode, Amy appeared in 11's last episode, only makes sense for Clara to do the same.

It's a massive change for anyone who's been a fan of the show for quite some time so the backlash is understandable. The backlash would've been even bigger had we not already seen Missy. HOWEVER, I do think people should reserve their judgements until we've actually seen Jodie Whittaker in the role. Like I said, it's a massive change, but let's wait before we blame it on feminisation.

I reckon we'll get multiple companions again, Pearl Mackie never got a goodbye video like Michelle Gomez and Matt Lucas did so I think they're planning to bring her back but I think she'll likely play second fiddle to whoever will be the new companion.

I do agree that the main companion is likely going to be male though, Regardless of who's playing what role, they'll want a main male and female.
