Missy was great but the fact they rammed the whole "time lords can be females" thing down our throats with that and then the General in Hell Bent. They shouldn't need to change it to a female because people who have watched the show for longer than the revival will know it was a male and should always be a male. There's no need to make it a female. PC has gone mad nowadays.

Please don't assume you speak on behalf of everyone who's watched it since before 2005. I watched the reveal with some members of my family- from 17 to 70 years old- and nobody seemed to mind the casting.

For what it's worth, I am absolutely delighted with the decision. It's really exciting and will really make the show seem fresh. Jodie Whittiker is a phenomonal actress and here's hoping she makes a great thirteenth Doctor.

That's the thing, it's not a male role. The role was never specifically a male role. It's nothing to do with feminism? It's showing diversity in the world of Doctor Who and is something that will breath fresh air into the show.

Ok but you literally said "people who have watched the show for longer than the revival will know it was a male and should always be a male", which kinda suggests you know what they all think and that those of us who like the idea are only fans of the revived series. I've been a fan of the show for as long as I can remember and have watched most of the existing classic episodes.

As for the Ghostbuster analogy, it's not really relevant, is it? I thought the movie was pretty crap. But it's quality was down to the poor writing. Just like if Jodie Whittiker is not sucessful, it will be down to poor stories or acting ability, not the fact that she's a woman. I'm only quoting what people have said to me. The whole ghostbuster analogy is just to show that people continuously insist there should be a female version of this and that but you never see anyone suggest a male version of something. I will give her a chance but I just don't like the fact the whole 'time lords can be female' thing has been rammed down our throats too many times now. I do agree with Judi Dench being successful but I do agree with what you are saying so let's leave it be.

It's a massive change for anyone who's been a fan of the show for quite some time so the backlash is understandable. The backlash would've been even bigger had we not already seen Missy. HOWEVER, I do think people should reserve their judgements until we've actually seen Jodie Whittaker in the role. Like I said, it's a massive change, but let's wait before we blame it on feminisation.

There's no need for the Doctor to change at all. They could just make each actor a different Time Lord. But that's the show so get over it.

The show has changed pretty much every part of itself many times to survive over 54 years and this is a change it has not experimented with thus far and if the show is in desperate need of anything it's a major overhaul.

And if done right, this could turn the shows fortunes around.

Trying to replicate a past era would not have worked.
