Default Advice needed(updated)

I know people make advice threads all the time but seriously sometimes it's people that don't really know you that can help you the most. Although saying this I kinda need people to know me to help me with this.

Right,I have NO clue what I want to do in life. I did one year of a nursing degree which I hated and have been nothing for a year and I want to do a new course in September but I have no clue to do or what career I want in life. So I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of what I might be good at? Like what career/course would suit it? I know it's a bit of a big ask but I could seriously do with any advice you guys might have.

Oh and also if anyone has any idea how to get a job in this economy(or knows of jobs going),that'd be great too. I feel a bit in limbo ever since last summer and I want to get out of it.

Any ideas or advice anyone has will be apperciated x

What are your hobbies?

Right now, I could picture you as a journalist.

The best advice I can give you is to take something that could take you in a vast amount of places and to do something you enjoy. It might sound really simple but its helped me in a huge way. I know it's a completely different story but still, I just hope I can help, even if its a tiny bit x

Hobbies-music,reading,internet,fashion,writing. People have told me journalist before but I'm not sure I'm confident enough to do it. I'd have to get something at a magazine or such to be happy.

Thanks Caitlin I shall try to figure out something that applies to that.

And LOL Remy,seriously?

You should honestly be a journalist, I think you have the rainbow of skills needed for it, just follow your heart and tell yourself that you can do anything if you really try hard enough.

Writing for Heat is like my dream job! I know someone on Twitter who works for Heat and seriously her job is reviewing chick-lit and dramas on telly and Take That CD's,she got to meet Take That for work!

Hmm I shall definitely think more about journalism.

Personally, I recommend getting a part time job, which really, you'll just have to look around for and ask.
If you want to go to college, look on the college you would like to go to's website and look through the courses . They do Media courses which you might be interested in, since the stuff ranges from Magazines, Music and TV...

You could try and write a book in your free time. They say everyone has at least one good book in them and you do a lot of reading so I'm sure there's some potential there.

why don't you try a short story first, less commitment involved. then you might find a character you really love and want to develope further.

Yeah I am in a similar situation to you, leave 6th form in June & have NO idea what I want to do. All I can advise is to dabble in various things so you can appreciate what skills you have and what may interest you. Try getting a part-time job for cash, volunteering and work experience in various places

You could do a Journalism course at college, and do volunteering at the same time

Orienteering? Why would she want to do orienteering? When did she mention wanting to do Geographical Sport?

I did Journalism and Media at university; however it was only for a term as it wasn't really for me, now I'm stuck in a bit of a rut looking for a job with some sort of decentish future.

The actual course wasn't so bad, if you enjoy writing, Journalism is something you'd most likely love. Confidence shouldn't really be an issue, as that is what the course is there for, to help you ease into journalism slowly.

My own personal advice regarding what you should do if you are still uncertain of something is to just not do it until you are definitely sure it's what you want to do, or you are definitely sure tyhat it's something you're deeply interested in and are not likely to lose interest in.

I made the mistake of just chosing Journalism and Media because I loved media, loved writing, and liked English, therefore it seemed a logical choice, however, my heart just wasn't really in it, therefore it wasn't for me.

Just make sure you're dead certain with whatever you choose to do, you can always go in a couple of years if you think you'll be certain what career you want then rather than now, which is what I plan to do

Media is always good Laura. I think you'd suit that and it would keep you interested.
