I wouldn't recommend using anything before you have researched the benefits for yourself.
Many natural remedies can be very dangerous.

I ate a bounty just before I got ill, so coconut stuffs obviously don't work.

Try drinking apple cider vinegar water. Apparently the acid kills the bad bacteria.
I used to have cold sore on and off, but ever since I started drinking cider vinegar water - for nearly 10years (?), I have not had one at all but once.

Just once I did not sleep enough some winter for some reason, I got a cold sore! Then I realised even the cider vinegar water would not work if I did not sleep properly.

Also drink plenty of water regularly.

My friend for more than 20 years drinks honey and lemon hot water every morning. I can not remember she had a cold. (I must ask her when she had a cold last time. - Just curiosity)
