I think it depends on the situation but I also think if you're working in customer service you should try to keep that policy

Bad customer service really annoys me .. There are a dire shortage of jobs, if you can't manage to be civil then you don't deserve to be a representative for that company.
Having said that if a customer is out and out rude or personally offensive that is different.

No. Some of my customers have made mistakes when ordering and it was their fault. But I'm never rude when I call them out. But if they are rude to me then I will be rude back, I'm serving them food, don't belittle me.

No. The amount of times people tried it on with me when I worked in a pub...always trying to say that they gave me £20 when they gave me £10 to try and get extra money from me and make my till be wrong...it happened pretty much daily.
I gave up trying to be nice about it and eventually just told them to stop ****ing lying because I wasnt stupid and the till had a button that we had to press to say which note had gone on in the first place. and if they had any further complains to see my boss at the end of my shift when he would be cashing up the till. They also used to say they had ordered a different drink to what they had actually ordered, just to be awkward ****s. That didnt work with me either. A lot of customers are absolute arseholes. I still get arseholes in my current job tbh, even though its not customer service as such Nowadays I just literally ignore them if they start twisting on. Seems to be the best way. I'd rather stab myself with a steak knife than let them feel as if they're in the right when they're clearly in the wrong

And it's true, some customers will look down on you and treat you like ****e just because you work in fast-food or similar areas, and think that you can be walked over

Well of course if someone is being dishonest there will be an issue, shop workers who stand gabbing ignoring you and surly counter assistants are a royal pain though.

My sister works in HMV part time while she's at Uni and she said that one day a customer came in with a pair of over-ear headphones that had literally been snapped in half, claiming that they just fell apart when he was wearing them and demanded a refund. She initially refused to give a refund because, obviously, he caused the damage himself. However he stood there for a good 5 minutes insisting it wasn't him and eventually the store manager gave him a refund as an "act of good will", though really it was just to shut him up. ![]() |

Of course the customer isn't always right, unless the customer is me of course. I'd say it is half and half, you get customers trying it on for freebies, but you also get rudeness to customers from some. I usually get pretty good service from customer service peeps, but you do get the occasional nobheads. The customer service from call centres is usually atrocious, and nine times out of ten I end up calling back again and again after being given wrong information, only to be told 'I don't know who told you that or why but that is wrong'

I had a load of idiots shouting abuse at me from there car through drive thru before, somebody threaten to report me because I wouldn't make their drink larger for free, somebody literally jump over front counter and steal food right next to me... it works both ways
