Will Smith is one of the biggest stars working today but without a doubt his biggest break came in 1989 when the then 21 year old rapper was approached by NBC to star in a semi-fictionalised version of his own life. And so a legend was born...



The original series ran for six years, by which time Smith was already trying to stop the world from blowing up in Independence Day. But the news today is that he's looking back now to potentially ressurect the Fresh Prince for a new version of the TV show.

TVline reports that Smith is getting ready to shop a small screen reboot and will act as a producer only - though we wouldn't be surprised if he cameos should the project go ahead. His company Overbrook Entertainment is currently putting together a package for a family comedy series which will extend the appeal of the Fresh Prince to a modern audience.

It's still pretty early days and there's no network attached as yet, but with the series 20 years off the air next year that might be the perfect time to have the show make a return. And who knows - this might end up being the big break for another young star on the rise.
