Default Should a country's music artists, sportspeople get punished in a war/conflict

controversial maybe i know

but i thought this makes a interesting debate subject here

now with the Russian invasion in Ukraine and Belarus's Lukashenko dictatorship

- music artists of theirs no longer being able to participate at eurovision song contest (a music competition which had the ''no politics in eurovision'' motto for a long time but EBU have broken that rule)

- russian and belarusian sportspeople getting banned from events in Wimbledon, Korea Open, Formula 1, banned by UEFA/FIFA

now EBU are threatening to do the same to Azerbaijan, due to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict

so my question, should music artists, sportspeople get punished for the actions of their country's governments?

this whole wokeism, cancel culture thing goes way too far in my opinion (if this thread might end up getting locked by mods fair enough but i needed to get this out of me)

Yeah as with tennis players, athletes, boxers, they should not be banned but stand as individuals not representing their countries at war.

So maybe someone can be in the Eurovision but they'd have to represent another country not involved in the conflict/war.

Russia's broadcasters, especially Channel One were soo disgusted at them being blamed for Putin's actions while they themselves have always remained quite neutral, but due to this blame by EBU they actually pulled out of the EBU themselves entirely stating not wanting to be part of a political correct regime, and they are going to launch their own music contest now

^ Agree, I think it's discrimination to ban individuals like Wimbledon did. Same with venues that have pulled operas and concerts by Russian composers and musicians

If its a team sport where they are representing their country then it's legitimate to ban them imo. There's a lot of soft power in sport and the arts

I think that the individuals missing a year of Tennis for example was meant to pile extra pressure on the Russian Government to stop what they're doing, obviously it didn't work.

I agree they shouldn't be punished.
Definitely though performing as individuals and not representing an aggressor Nation.

pretty sure the way it is going, Eurovision will eventually have to cease to exist, if only 15 countries are left

the woke lazy ******* within the EBU, but congratulations to Ukraine to be the winners for the next 20 years too

if they are actively supporting/promoting the regime, for sure they should be banned
