Child separation only occurred in cases of suspected smuggling or abuse. Only a handful of kids were seperated from their accompanying adults on a yearly basis. Not thousands in a matter of months.

I don't think many people would 'have the balls' to enforce state sanctioned child abuse tbh.

Obama's approach had issues, it wasn't perfect but it didn't infringe on human rights or traumatise children. Trump wanted to 'get one over' on Obama by trying to scrap his policies and in turn created a barbaric new system that, judging by the hollow executive order, he isn't too fussed about fixing.
