Needs to be rested, if it comes back it needs to stand out again by stripping everything back and also changing every facet of it. Brand new location, format, presenters etc.

I agree. Remove all of the bells and whistles, stages, lights etc and go simple. Maybe even make it a completely pre-recorded series without any viewer interaction, just the housemates playing the game.
