I always asked my mum because she was more likely to say yes .

In my own house, my daughters will ask either of us, whoever is on hand at the time BUT my eldest has a very firm opinion that my wife's answer over-rules mine . So if she asks either of us and it's a "yes" then she's content. If she asks her mum and it's a "no", then it's a "no". If she asks me and it's a "no", then she goes and asks her mum, and then if her mum says "yes", comes back like "Well mum says yes so ha ha".
