To a degree they were but Akeem when he led thought he was Lord of the Manor and took it too seriously.
He came across more pompous near trying to boss them about and dictate while strutting about.

The saddest thing is, he doesn't see how he can irritate others, most likely he holds the view he couldn't possibly annoy others.
So he turns it back on them.
There's a fair few miseries in there, yet he can only turn on the youngest person there,who happens to be the one who'd dare say to Akeem that he can be irritating.
