Thanks for that tanussa,it's all very clear from that ,that he is sorry and it was not said in malice, and it was HIM who went to the DR and told BB,and they really wanted to keep him in.

I really admire his honesty. He hasn't tried to brush this under the carpet. Instead he has admitted it and that takes great courage. I like him even more now.
And he's actually doing something good : helping people who are affected by suicide or depression.

I really agree with this point.

I found Lewis repugnant (sorry Dean, I know you loved him) however, production has been massively inconsistent in how they have policed their version of what is and isn’t appropriate.

He should not have been removed for saying something that wasn’t aired because no-one could be offended by something they had not seen.

If they were going to get rid of him how about using the misogyny we all saw? Anne Widdicome was utterly and at times hatefully un-pc and came second. It is perfectly reasonable then to draw this comparison just as it is completely fair to draw the Barrymore comparison...

Sauce - goose - gander. Bad decision by production team.

Lewis is using his Instagram account to actually help people who are affected by suicide or depression. He's doing a lot of good. Of course the keyboards warriors don't understand that. I pity them.

Yes. Michael's Barrymore made a similar joke, but wasn't removed.Ann at times crossed the line, but again she was allowed to stay. Its all very inconsistent.

They do understand Vanessa , unless they are unbelievably thick, they just think they are mighty warriors behind their keyboards, when really if they were confronted you wouldn't see their arses for dust, I do love all those positive comments for him though, it just shows most people do understand people make mistakes and he has owned up to his , I don't know what else people want, he seems a lovely bloke, complicated but nice.

Helping people is far more important than winning a tv show. I'm so glad that he understands that. And a lot of good has come out of this.

When is he putting on his big red rosette to go canvassing for labour?

Precisely - Barrymore was pathetically offensive as was Widdicome (at times). Production deemed it ok to air this for us to cringe over nevertheless. Inconsistency by Production is forever going to be very frustrating indeed. One minute it’s this then the next minute it’s something else. If you were to draw this to it’s natural ridiculous conclusion we would be faced with housemates who sat in silence for 6 weeks for fear they may offend someone...grrr

IF Lewis uses this notoriety for good and helps people that is a great thing - mental health needs talking about and if people feel they can open up to a person from a TV show then that is great. I still say C5 had very little choice to remove him...anti-semitism has been highlighted a lot recently and is a massively emotive subject, far more than in the Barrymore days and so to protect the brand they really had no option to remove him now.

Yes. Mental health is still very much a taboo subject. People feel like they can't talk about it, for fear of being judged. Those who have been there understand and don't judge.
I've been there myself, but no one knows, not even my closest family and friends. They wouldn't understand.

It’s Corbyns fault.

If he hadn’t made anti-semitism such an issue in this country Lewis might’ve got away with it.

Not with events in the news that weekend. Someone was actually killing Jews.

Yep that too.Forgot about that.Bad timing.

Never been a Lewis fan but i’ve always been against removals for things people say.
Let them speak freely and deal with the consequences on eviction night and when they get out imo.

I think any other year, they would have just gave a warning and be done with it. But it was horrendous timing, with the shooting. Also I suspect he had had many warnings previously about various offensive language. And no, we don't always get shown warnings..didn't Helen Wood get like 30?

Anyway, this makes a lot more sense, than when it was claimed that it was just about saying Auschwitz instead of outfits (which is an almost impossible 'mistake' to start with IMO...was almost certainly an attempt at a joke rather than a 'slip of the tongue') which it very very obviously was not.

...(I’d like to think..)...that in any year and with any housemate...any form of ‘kill the jew’ mockery/flippancy/jokery ...the specific use of those words would never have any level of acceptability within any reality TV show for any contestant to have said in whatever year /circumstances or whatever they were said in...the words he used could have only resulted with an ejection, nothing else would have been acceptable imo...everything else being noted just detracts from the seriousness of what was actually said by him and that, that was enough....

Barrymore doing a Hitler impersonation and talking gibberish is shown for entertainment (it wasn't particularly funny).

But the annihilation of the Jews was actually Hitler's prime directive. Hitler doesn't become a harmless object of derision if you neuter what he was about.

Unfortunately we will never see the manner in which Lewis was doing his Hitler thing.

I agree but, to be fair, that was 12 years ago and I highly doubt Barrymore would get away with that act today. Though I suspect they simply wouldn't show it, he wouldn't have been thrown out.

Exactly the world has moved on, Biggins was chucked out for more or less the same thing and there was no fuss about that ejection
