There are many reasons why older people prefer younger company. For one, it keeps you thinking young, which contributes to a healthier outlook. Also, as you get older things tend to become boring and repetitive. New ideas, and new vitality is always welcome. Or .... would people prefer older people to hide away and vegetate?

It's a strange thing to say really. Not because of his age, but because it's like saying, "I'll never date a Bob," or "I would never date somebody who is shorter than me." I think the whole idea of having a 'cut-off point' is weird. Is he saying that if he was to meet a woman in her late thirties who ticks most of his boxes, he'd blow her off because of her age? Because that would be silly.
