With regards to the topic, what he did was really foolish considering that people are subjected to this type of hatred and violence on a regular basis. I didn’t want to believe it was a stunt but I’d rather have felt sympathetic for him than just be cynical and thinking he was making it up

At the time it was believable but now that his real intentions became apparent I kinda resent that I did defend him. Of course I’m gonna feel sympathetic when I first heard the story, but why it was doubted in the first place just screams cynical

Believable - that he got pushed over/punched by someone randomly in passing and possibly called a name.

Not believable - that he was recognised on a dark cold night, assaulted, attempted to be noosed, all by assailants who said "MAGA country" ... within a minute (the time he and the "suspects" weren't visible to CCTV)

If he didn't want to be caught, he should have kept his lies simple.

That was the believable part. When I saw the injuries he sustained made me believe it even more. It does sound really exaggerated but that’s the information we were given

The injuries would have been the same if he slipped on some yellow ice tbh. But I guess we'll have to agree to differ - the story just sounds too ridiculous to be true to me, but whatever.
