Keeping up appearances was pretty much a sketch show. It was the same jokes each week but in a different order.

No, definetly a sitcom, that was just the writers style. He also wrote Last of the Summer Wine and Open All Hours, which also had recurring jokes, and catchphrases every episode.

I agree, it's definetly overrated, it's hard work to get through the box set, and it doesn't make me eager to re-watch it, as others do.
