More institutional racism. There's also another story that happened recently of an officer who told a black man to hand over a gun he was legally allowed to carry, only to shoot and kill him when he tried to follow her orders. The police officer then tried to cover up the body cam footage.
As it stands, you simply cannot trust the police in the US if you aren't white and the police don't do enough to punish this behaviour to combat the distrust their inaction in condemning such brutality fosters.
