Default Quentin Tarantino pitches Star Trek film

Quentin Tarantino 'pitches Star Trek film to JJ Abrams'

To boldly go where no man has gone before? The Reservoir Dogs director has been a fan of the franchise for a long time.

By Duarte Garrido, Entertainment Reporter

"Highly illogical" as it may sound, it has been reported that Quentin Tarantino is gearing up to take on Star Trek.

According to an exclusive report on Deadline magazine, the Reservoir Dogs filmmaker is taking his first step into science fiction, ready to explore strange new worlds.

Although the project has yet to be greenlit, and both the studio and the people involved have declined to comment, it has been reported that Paramount and producer JJ Abrams are on board.

Abrams was the man in charge of rebooting the franchise back in 2009 to modest reviews and has since been either directing or producing the sequels.

This isn't the first time Tarantino has showed interest in the franchise.

In a 2015 interview, the Pulp Fiction director said he was more likely to take on Star trek than Star Wars, since he was a big fan of the original show.

"The only thing that limited them was their '60s budget and eight-day shooting schedule," he said.

"You could take some of the classic Star Trek episodes and easily expand them to 90 minutes or more and really do some amazing, amazing stuff."

Tarantino has always shied away from adapting other people's work, and usually insists in writing and directing his own films.

In television, he experimented on a couple of episodes of the show CSI and one episode of ER, but always as small side projects.

Right now, he is planning a film for Sony on the Manson Murders with Margot Robbie rumoured to play Sharon Tate.

I'd love to see that.

I hope this happens, with Discovery and now this, it could be the start of another golden age for the franchise

Update about this.

Quote:
Quentin Tarantino Star Trek film still "a very big possibility"

With Once Upon A Time In Hollywood on the horizon, Tarantino is about to shift his focus onto Star Trek.

Quentin Tarantino's ninth film, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, will finally be released in July, and then the director may very well get to work on that R-rated Star Trek film he's been teasing since 2017.

Although we've not heard a peep about the J.J. Abrams-backed Trek endeavour for quite some time, Tarantino is still very enthusiastic about making it happen.

"It’s a very big possibility," Tarantino told SlashFilm. "I haven’t been dealing with those guys for a while cause I’ve been making my movie. But we’ve talked about a story and a script. The script has been written and when I emerge my head like Punxsutawney Phil, post-Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, we’ll pick up talking about it again."

Karl Urban, who plays the Doctor McCoy in Paramount's rebooted Star Trek film series, has previously said that Tarantino was interested in making his "bananas" Trek film with the current cast. His comments, however, came before Star Trek 4 was shelved at the studio, which could end up providing this other project with a better window, and a greater chance of survival.

"I think that Tarantino would be able to do something quite unique. So, fingers crossed that will happen," Urban said. "It is in the hands of Paramount. If we don’t get to make [Star Trek 4] next year with Chris Hemsworth, then that’s ok, let’s make a really good Quentin Tarantino Star Trek movie. You will have to wait longer, but it will be well worth it."

The Revenant's Mark L Smith was first tasked with the job of turning Tarantino's Trek dream into a reality, fashioning a screenplay for the potential movie. Presumably, that's still the noted script in the mix, but as things tend to get reworked quite often, we wouldn't be surprised if this gets several overhauls before it finds its way in front of any cameras.

More as it's unveiled.

I think it could be good honestly.

BUT idk how much "casual sci-fi fans" will enjoy the extensive sci-fi dialogue seeing as QT loves a good, long conversation or 10 in his movies!

The problem I have with the recent Star Trek films is that they are too action-heavy so I think more dialogue would be good.
