The Americans only helped in WW2 when they themselves got attacked, they refused to get involved in the Falklands conflict and many of the missiles that destroyed our ships in the Falklands were provided to Argentina by the French. So other countries coming to the UK's assistance is a very rare event. We shouldn't expect it and have the armed forces available to protect ourselves. We can't rely on anyone else.

I think Macron of France is of the view of General de Gaulle.
Who used his veto to stop the UK joining the Common market.
Seeing the UK as unreliable and ensuring while he was in power we weren't allowed in.

I think Macron would be overjoyed to see us go too.
