Default Blade Runner’s Rutger Hauer dies, age 75 yrs...

Actor Rutger Hauer has died at the age of 75, his agent has confirmed.

Following a short period of illness, the star died on Friday 19 July at his home in the Netherlands and his funeral was held on Wednesday.

The veteran actor featured in many films and TV shows over the years, but remains best-known for playing Roy Batty in Blade Runner.

The role saw him star opposite Harrison Ford and in the film’s closing moments, he delivered the famous “tears in rain” speech.

Following confirmation of the sad news, famous faces including director Guillermo Del Toro paid tribute to Rutger.

“RIP the great Rutger Hauer: an intense, deep, genuine and magnetic actor that brought truth, power and beauty to his films,” Del Toro tweeted. “My personal favorites: Flesh + Blood, Eureka, The Hitcher, Blade Runner, Ladyhawke and Blind Fury.”

Rutger, who was born near Amsterdam, was well-known for appearing in horror films and starred as Van Helsing in a 3D Dracula film.

More recently, he appeared in the TV series Porters, alongside Daniel Mays, Susan Wokoma and Tanya Franks

this was from rutger's first acting breakthrough role here in my country, mediëval series Floris, him as title character

here's rutger in a talk show of ours in 2013

also loved his role in True Blood

many people here in my country, call one of greatest dutch actors

also fun fact, he actually was considered for the role of Robocop, a role that later went to Peter Weller, but he was first choice

he had a cameo in this kylie Minogue music video for on a night like this

he was one of our dutch actors who played alongside or opposite to greats like Sylvester Stallone, Richard Dreyfuss, Christian Bale, Liam Neeson

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.
I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate.
All those moments will be lost in time,
Like tears, in rain.

Blade Runner was my favourite, it's in my top five films of all time. But I liked everything he did. He was really scary in the original Hitcher.... what a sad day.

Nicky, he was one of your country's greatest exports.

One of my all time favorite actors. I love Ladyhawke. That movie was filmed in Abruzzo, Italy. Such a gorgeous location.

Hobo With A Shotgun is an AMAZING movie Nicky! Me and my wife discovered it on a random DVD and had no idea what to expect. It's like an acid trip and I genuinely would recommend it to absolutely anyone who likes non-conventional movies.

Honestly anyone in the thread who hasn't seen it, give it a go. Then come back to praise it's bizarre brilliance and say WTF was that

Me not wanting to admit that I thought it was Sea-beams literally until today when I checked to see that I had all of the wording right.

I had it word for word. Other than the sea beams .
