Default Strictly’s same sex dance got almost 200 complaints from outraged viewers

STRICTLY Come Dancing's first ever same-sex dance sparked nearly 200 complaints to the BBC.

The Corporation reported that 189 people objected that it was "offensive to feature two men dancing as a pair" after Johannes Radebe and Graziano Di Prima performed together.

The barefoot pair took to the dance floor during Emeli Sande's performance in the results show on 3 November this year.

They did spins, lifts, and even gymnastics as they held hands and beamed at one another, alongside Luba Mushtuk and Aljaž Skorjanec.

The move got a warm reception on Twitter, with one fan writing: "Johannes dancing with Graziano is beautiful and more more more same sex partnerships please."

Another said that the landmark moment had moved them to tears.



It came after the show's ITV rival Dancing On Ice announced it would be making TV history by pairing two male dancers - pro skater Matt Evers and Steps star Ian 'H' Watkins.

The complaint over the same-sex dances was revealed as the BBC published its run-down of complaints, which was mainly concerned with accusations of political bias.

It received more complaints than an episode of Have I Got News For You that 140 viewers felt was biased against the Conservative party or Brexit

I totally misunderstood that chart in the OP and thought that "Bias against James Cleverly" was a reason someone had put as a reason to complain about the dance

i guess there is some serious vile homophobia in those complaints


this same-sex performance was a move in the right direction, strictly going along with current times and LGBTQ community

also this sort of senseless moaning can only happen in britain it seems


in Germany we had first same-sex pairing Kerstin Ott & Regina Luca (2 women) and they got a lot of respect from many of the viewers, dance wise kerstin wasn't good at all but most viewers agreed that it was interesting to watch also for one of the women to lead in the performances which is really difficult


now also DOI Germany had few of the pro male skaters during opening group performance of show 1 dance together, and vice versa few of pro female skaters

and no complaints there either


i mean why complain, when you can be more open to seeing new things
