Jack Merrit's Dad has asked that his son's death is not turned into a political football, and his wishes have been ignored

To be fair, it's a big ask for Jack Merrit's death not to be politicised when it happened two weeks before the most important general election for a long, long time, and considering the history of mud-slinging from all sides of the political spectrum.

I don't think it is too much to ask, if this hadn't happened they would have carried on campaigning at any rate on other issues, imagine if it were your son would you like ANY party to be making capital of his death

The attack seems to have been timed to coincide with the election campaign, just like the attacks before the 2017 election.

i think all this politics at the expense of the two young people that died and their families is very distasteful. There was a time when political parties would have been respectful, that's sadly a time that will never be recovered. I'm ashamed of what our country has become.

But the the public want to know what the responses are, if it had happened at any other time then of course there wouldn't be any politicising.
This cannot be ignored, it's a massive issue facing the country and it needs addressing. Had I been affected I would want to make sure this could never happen again, and I would expect accountability and change.

This is an example of moral panic, there have been people being released for years and years who have not served a full term.
It is only an issue now due to other failings in identifying the threat he posed upon release. Only through a programme of deradicalisation can it be assessed how great a threat these people are, otherwise they always will be regardless of the length of time they spend in prison.

You have not been affected, and your wishes have not been ignored, your rights are not more important than one of the families of the victims. No one is saying ignore it, what is being asked is that his sons name is not used to score cheap political points, it shouldn’t be too difficult to honour and quite frankly the fact that you are talking about what YOU would want in a similar situation rather than what the family going through it want is beyond words

No I didn't ask you, I was responding to Arista, that point was long gone by the time you waded in with what you would want, not everything is about you, we are dealing with the facts of what the family want here, and at any rate my point was imagine if it were your son and you asked for his death not to be used politically and it was ignored, I doubt even you would be happy kizzy
