Does hindsight put a different spin on how badly written she was in her final year or was she really that much of a miserable bitch?

If you watch the earlier series on Drama she was nowhere near that bad.
They wrote her into a villain because she told them she would quit if they had Pauline get remarried

Pauline's downfall doesn't bother me as such knowing Wendy Richards died a few years after anyway.

EE get major exits wrong about 80% of the time. Her death turned into a whodunnit and she was killed by a frying pan.
