If you mean that the papers are purely profit-driven and are simply providing what sells/generates clicks then sure. In that sense, the media is driven by the general public rather than vice versa. Its still **** that they do it.

However you're not explaining how the baying mobs (the majority) who lap up the headlines and spaff them back out across social media represent "all".

It's not new information that the MAJORITY are thick chavs easily lead by the nose. That's been evident ... Forever, as far as I can tell. But don't conflate "majority" with "universal". It's an all too common mistake these days. "The Bwitish People want/don't want X, Y, Z!" because <60% of them say so. It's nonsense.
