Epidemiologist & Sage Member
John Edmunds
on all UK TV news and radio this morning
confirmed we are still getting
8,000 new Covid-19 cases a day
he also said track and trace has only just started
in England and is not ready.

We are staying on Level 4
not 3 which Johnson wanted.

Other Sage members agree with John.

Not than "ordinary" folk, the reason is that active/front line NHS staff are less likely to be obese or have other underlying health conditions than a "random sample" of people the same age so recovery chances are good if they get it.

They are still far more likely to get it in the first place. Obviously.

underlying conditions etc were all factored in, and NHS workers still faired better. It's pure speculation from me, but I think its probably because they got quicker treatment

i think we fall into a trap of being complacent. The BBC are doing a series at the moment inside a london hospital, and I think everyone should watch it

Yes, up to groups of 45 as long as you remain 20cm apart.

Like bots has said, it was an ONS study into Covid deaths by occupation

Quote:
Healthcare workers, including those with jobs such as doctors and nurses, were not found to have higher rates of death involving COVID-19 when compared with the rate among those whose death involved COVID-19 of the same age and sex in the general population.

This is going to get bad again, and this time we won't be getting another lockdown.

Doubt it, if that's the case then the most likely explanation is routine testing. Mild and asymptomatic cases being picked up in healthcare workers that would never even have been on the radar in genpop, skewing the figures to look like a lower rate of moderate to severe illness.

My wife's friend who is a staff nurse in a care home was tested routinely alongside the entire staff... They found that 20% were actively Covid positive and none had symptoms... Nor did they go on to develop symptoms.

I would imagine things like that are the reason it seems that proportionately fewer healthcare workers get it bad. It's probably just a pretty steady number and they don't get it worse (which has been an occasional fear).

It's hardly surprising, Track and Trace was never going to be anything other than a placebo. The tories want us to work and they want to sacrifice the vulnerable, they haven't changed tactics since they first announced the herd immunity bull****. They just put it on hold to appease the public.

The idea that track and trace could work with several thousand new infections per day is actually laughable. It can in theory work... When we're down to the low-hundreds.
