the good old negativity in here

i have some more positive news, from Vietnam only 11 cases left there (still no deaths)

the last local case can breathe on his own now, no need for ventilator anymore

whom recovered from something called a ''cytokine storm'' which makes his immune system overreact to the virus, almost fully had destroyed his lungs, there was a short time when only 10% of it was functional

so another miracle recovery there

Cytokine storm is the usual cause of death when young, healthy people die (of any common virus). The short explanation is, some inflammation is a normal immune response, cytokine storm is a sort of "chain reaction" of systemic inflammation that ends up causing more damage, which causes more inflammation, which causes more damage... etc.

TS lesson of the day .

NZ's borders are effectively closed, you can only enter the country with special permission like these two had because of a relative dying. Agree there will inevitably be new cases but with the right measures they can probably keep that number very low in a country like that

Well yes that (in theory) is what the track & trace programmes are for. But the idea that it'll "never sneak in" when there are, most likely, hundreds of millions infected globally at this point... is unrealistic. I mean we're still trying to figure out how to keep the disease-riddled English out of Scotland.

We will build a wall and you can pay for it

I should qualify that by saying the English, so no wall building for me

Our local shopping centre had queues all the way up the road for Primark yesterday, no social distancing, nothing...

If other shopping centres and high streets were like that yesterday then we'll see a spike in cases before long. People are ****ing dumb.

'Chinese virus' has racial implications in a time where racial aggression towards all asian people are at a high. 'UK virus' doesn't have the same connotations.

Calling the Coronavirus the 'Chinese virus' will only hurt asian people living their lives. The people who are likely to blame Covid on race are just simply less likely to blame UK people in the same way because, unless they speak, you can't tell. Plus a lot of these bigots will assume that the UK is a white country so they would be less likely to feel the need to lash out.

In Gtr Manchester where our R rate is already above 1 - we saw the shoppers shoulder to shoulder yesterday and that’s after two weekends of protests/ riots where well over 30,000 attended plus raves this weekend where over 6,000 attended ... including the rape of a young woman , one drug overdose and three stabbings ..

oh well, you can't help some folk, you gotta take your own precautions, I am sure the media will find someway to blame it on primary school bubbles with 6 kids though!

How did I guess some people would be absolutely fine with calling it the UK virus, it's not the UKs virus its a Global virus, and if NZ let these woman into the country and then out of quarantine early that is on them, they got lax

Well I explained the difference between referring to it as the UK virus and the Chinese virus. One leads to the increase of racial aggression and violence and the other does not. It's dumb to refer to it as either country's violence but referring it to the Chinese virus inevitably puts Asian people at risk of morons who think it gives them the right to racially harass others.

There's no point in vaguely acknowledging that I've said something and then completely ignoring what I've actually said.

British people are immune from attack abroad, who knew?

Can't imagine anyone from Germany being happy with it being called the German virus....only in the UK will it be sucked up and defended lol

number of new cases +140

this is more going up still because now more people than before can get tested here in Netherlands

so these numbers are still quite low, when some of the people first thought that to be much higher, the amount of actual infected and that it would instantly go up massively high or something

Scientists in the UK have discovered a cheap and available treatment for COVID-19 patients.
They have described the use of common steroid drug dexamethasone as a "major breakthrough".
The drug reduced death rates by a third for patients on ventilators, and by a fifth for patients needing oxygen.
