What has this story got to do with "people they don't like"?

I feel you copy and pasted some Facebook comment you liked the look of and got the context wrong.

Apparently Aladdin, Dumbo, and Flash Gordon have them too.

I couldn't think of anything in Aliens that got it the warning. It say here that it is because the actress that plays Vasquez is not Hispanic - https://www.digitalspy.com/movies/a3...aladdin-dumbo/

No different to a movie getting a rating tbh, which lets you know of any nude content, offensive language etc so people can make the choice to watch or not.

Emmerdale is 2 hours before the watershed what’s the worst that can happen?

I fear for people faces in the future lips pursed in disapproval causes terrible wrinkles

a warning that Aliens contains violence is just ruining it

i remember watching it at the cinema when it first came out and jumping out of my seat when the alien popped out

Just looking through the classics section of Now TV Lawrence of Arabia has one also. None others there.

They might not have checked the others yet.

I don't think Emmerdale's warnings are to do with offensive content (that I know of, I don't watch much of it). I imagine like Corrie's warnings before Shane Ward's exit episode was about warning people there would be a depiction of suicide in it, which they may not want to watch if they find it triggering. The same could be said for other sensitive topics like rape, eating disorders etc. To me it's just being considerate of everyone.

If they start banning things or putting restrictions on stories the soaps can depict then I'd have a problem. But not with letting people know what to expect.

In a similar vein, it makes me laugh when people mock the helplines at the end though, because they think the helpline is for people upset by the soap itself, when it's not, it's about people who have gone through the same thing as whatever storyline has been portrayed to find help.

I watched it at school on video. The teacher let us watch it because it was the end of the year.

It's one of the best action films of the 80s, in my opinion.

I think the helplines are fine as soaps cover issues in their storylines, I just find ‘threat of violence’ disclaimers crazy as generally it’s pre watershed, watered down nonsense and because they do it all the time it dilutes messages of scenes that actually might cause distress like Aidens suicide

They have to do it, though. I don't think it's about 'being PC' or anything like that, it's protecting themselves from the potentiality of complaint. Why do you think Big Brother had a twelve hour-long warning at the beginning of each episode? It's more about... 'here's a list of things you cannot complain about, because we warned you about them at the start of the show...'

Personally, I'd rather sit through the disclaimers than such shows being removed from existence completely.

Aliens???

i love that movie, i love the entire franchise of that

also if that is because of the Vazquez character, hmmm i had Always thought that one would be more appreciated in these current times too, in light of emancipation, strong women etc

correct the actress who plays her is Jeanette Goldstein, who was also in another Cameron movie Terminator 2: Judgment Day, as John's foster mom

but no **** an action movie containing violence *pretendstobeshocked*

I know they have to do it, BB was after the watershed so not quite the same...and some people still complain anyway so in the main its pretty pointless

Oh dear god

It's better than taking them down, but still pretty pathetic. All those films are harmless tbh

...with Breakfast at Tiffany’s and the racial stereotype of Mr Yunioshi, I wouldn’t say it was harmless tbh...even back in its day it caused controversy because of its offensiveness and it varied so much from the character as written by Truman Capote, so completely not in keeping with any portrayal either ...and yet it has remained For such a long time...so I guess that’s sadly how accepting society has been of these racist stereotypes and completely right and good that it’s finally being addressed....the ‘harmlessness’ as well could only really be determined by those who they offend../..if the stereotype negatively and if they offend, then they are not ‘harmless’...
