It's just a normal bike the you just flick the battery on when your going uphill for a bit of a boost. My son has one.

There's a difference between an electric-assisted bike (makes pedalling easier especially on hills as you say) and a full electric bike, which can hit 30mph on flat and some modded ones up to 50mph.
