If you did that in the UK you'd be charged with unprovoked assault, though. If you attacked someone who DID throw coffee over you (and had no violent priors) you'd probably get away with a warning because it was provoked/the other person attacked first. Attacking someone who did nothing just because they're WITH the person who attacked you? Not really going to fly as a defense.
