Inheritance (Netflix) - Not great really, the story line was so flaky and far fetched and plot holey like -

Judge Dredd (1995) 6/10
I used to read 2000AD magazine comic for Judge Dredd and at the time there was endless speculation about a Judge Dredd Movie. Then one night on Film 94 or Film 95 with the late Barry Norman he revealed that Silvester Stallone was going to star in it. I then wrote to 2000AD complaining that this information, out of courtesy should have been given to the readership before Barry Norman let the cat out of the bag. My letter was published and they cited legal issues or something like that, and I sent a 2000AD baseball cap, which I still have. When it came out I maid a point of seeing it at the cinema, the old Odeon on Pilgrim Street in Newcastle, where the Stack is today, I believe. The problem was Stallone, as he removed the helmet, the Judge Dredd in the comic never did that! But Stallone could never have his fizog covered for the entire movie. One of the errors of the movie is that they had a disgraced judge and then a framed Dredd being sent to a penal colony on Earth along with other criminals. The other criminals were incarcerated in Iso-Cubes within Mega City One. Criminal judges are sent away from Earth to Titan. They even had Judge Hershy kissing Dredd at the end, that would have got her dismissed, if not sent to Titan!!! So yesterday I watched the recording I made off of the Sony Move Channel which aired on Friday night. (It may be repeated this month) Note: A subsequent "animated" Judge Dredd film was made which was better and closer to the comics but am not sure when that was made.

I watched La La Land (ironic eh?) tonight after finding my copy of the DVD here. Haven't seen it for a while...
Fell in love with it all over again. As musicals go (contemporary musicals anyway), this has got to be up there with the best surely? I love the fact that it's your regular "sickly sweet" musical but only to a certain point. There's the hard slap of "real life" in abundance in this, as the ending proves and those classic traits you'd expect in a "musical" are manipulated around these "real" events (failure, breakups, heartbreak etc). The story, colours, songs, nods to classic musicals, the use of the city of Los Angeles as basically a third main character - or even perhaps the main character?.. Brilliant. My desire to visit LA, as always after watching this movie, has just trebled. Can't wait for the world to feel a bit more normal so I can get out there and see those sights with my own two eyes. 9/10 (from someone who, as a rule, hates musicals!) Hubie Halloween
I don't know what to say. Objectively it is absolutely awful and extremely offensive about both learning disabilities and mental health. The plot is also really stupid and most of the acting is terrible, and Sandler spends the entire film derping around pretending to be intellectually disabled. Just really, really awful and outdated stuff. AND YET... I was oddly entertained throughout. It crosses that boundary into being SO ****ing dumb that you can't stop watching. ??derp/10 |

I hate Adam Sandler, his career should have subsided decades ago, it's honestly sad how he just keeps ****ting out these lifeless Netflix films for the sake of it.

ED WOOD (1994)
Tim Burton's criminally underrated gem that never gets enough praise from what I can see, based on the true events of hapless aspiring director Edward D. Wood Jr [Ed Wood]'s ambitious and enthusiastic attempts at becoming "THE" horror director in Hollywood and the lead up to and making of his now infamous B-movie "Plan 9 from Outer Space". Amazing cast (Johnny Depp, Martin Landau, Sarah Jessica Parker, Patricia Arquette, Bill Murray and more), cinematography, score and "feel"... Ugh. Martin Landau as Bela Lugosi is phenomenal, no surprise why he won the Oscar that year. It's a hilarious look into the more wacky side of the Hollywood of days gone by. Awesome film and perfect for Halloween, a nice change from the usual "horror movies" - how about a movie about horror movies, and the classic ones at that. 9/10. The new Borat movie. Sacha Baron Cohen never misses, especially when it comes to roasting America.

...Over the Moon../..Netflix......I liked it quite a lot...it didn’t quite have the same heart and soul as Disney or Pixar and probably took a little longer to fully engage with the characters...but I don’t know, it only slightly missed at being as great and Disney etc have such a head start anyway, it was always going to lag behind a little...visually it’s beautiful......the songs are all cute and engaging, as is Fei Fei../..her character...it very much has a feeling of CoCo, probably because of the celebration of a festival...and it isn’t CoCo, but that would be an impossible reach anyway...it really would be like trying to reach the moon...anyways, charming and lovely and visually gorgeous with likeable characters and songs etc...7.5/10......
