i think things have changed pretty significantly in the last couple of weeks, even in low areas of infection and that's what is causing the more general concern.

My behaviour won't be changing anyway as i've been sticking to the rules throughout

Good to see the old mantra back.
Although since I'm apparently thick and got told lockdowns are ONLY to protect the NHS.
I wonder why he added stay home and save lives to the protect the NHS again included slogan too.

If it's not about saving lives too that is.

I think they need to control the boarders better
Otherwise we'll never get rid of the virus.

the strategy should be to drive the virus down, make sure no-one gets in that has the virus and test and trace effectively. But it all relies on people social distancing and too many people are just not doing it. If people don't social distance, the numbers of infected go up too high and its impossible to test and trace. Also, people need to not be disadvantaged that should be isolating. It should be treated as a service to the country rather than becoming a member of the unclean

So the North have made their own bed they can lie in it.

...but when London requires a lockdown, the entire country is "in it together"?

Yep....the R rate was decreasing in the North but rising in the South so lets make sure the southern people don't feel victimised and lock em all down.

Say what now? Wasn’t Bradford going into Tier 3 on Monday? And Nottingham had just moved, not aware of any movement in the South, maybe I missed it? the victimhood is real

Spare a though for the Tier 1s, they are the victims in this latest move

The R rate in London has been higher than the northwest all week. Liverpool rates are dropping due to Tier 3. The northern tier 3 areas were expected to cope on 67% of wages and be happy about it but now the surge is creeping south, furlough is back on the table and everything is shut.

I agree the south west have been hit hardest as they have had it under control but there is no victimhood from me Cherie, just stating facts from a Northern perspective.

It's actually really worrying that such an uncompromising opportunist like Johnson is in place for this pandemic.
Along with his yes Prime Minister Cabinet sheep.

His dangerous procrastination should be a worry for all other than his also hard-line supporters.

My thoughts are with and go out to those who've lost hundreds of loved ones again, possibly unnecessary too.

Then he again fails to put any official shielding in place even just for those who want or need it.
Never mind the ones willing to take risks while mixing in Stores with others.

This is at best over 3 weeks overdue, at worst near 6 weeks overdue from being called for by the science advice on 21st September.

How high have death figures risen in those last 6 weeks.
Even just on his manipulated 28 day diagnosis rule to record the deaths too.

There's over 1000 deaths a week again over the last 2 weeks.
That's a lot of loved ones left grieving, a lot of children losing their Grandparents.
Friends and neighbours being lost before their time.

When this man rolls out things like to save Christmas etc.
After holding back and insisting almost he'd never do another national lockdown.
It's nauseating.
As I admit my response will be to him.

He is not up to this challenge, he never has been.
He wasn't in March and isn't now as he's repeating the same procrastination he did then.

This needed a separate body dealing with this.
Not to be dealt with from the agenda Johnson likely has.

Just over a week ago, he insisted furlough could not be extended, he'd been very generous and it couldn't be afforded now.
That only two thirds of wages could now be guaranteed, in local lockdowns.
No more than that.

Now he can, put in the 80% again and extend furlough.
Which Labour, the SNP's Ian Blackford and all other parties have been calling for over the last 2 months now.

It couldn't be done he insisted.
Yet yes it can.

It's right it has been.
It shouldn't have been left to the day it ended to announce it's extension however.

You cannot trust or believe a word he says.
He's hopeless, utterly hopeless.

In any major business , he and his whole team would be OUT.
Rightly so too.

The leadership is woeful.
Hapless Hancock, how on earth is that waste of political space still in his job.

If this ends 2nd December, 3 weeks before Christmas, just watch the pushing most or everyone out to go Christmas shopping, get towns and cities buzzing again.

It's not easy sitting in an armchair criticising the handling of this pandemic by this PM and his whole inept team.
Because Sunak too said furlough couldn't be extended and there was no more funding to be had on that scheme.
Caution thrown to the wind again.

It would be good to be able to say, he's even doing his best.
However he's not.
His delaying in implementing action has cost lives.
From March and is again now in my view.
Unnecessary losses of lives are not to me, and should never be acceptable.

That question was asked of him and his extremely gloomy bookends yesterday.
No answer came as to lives that could have been avoided with earlier action on a national lockdown.
Scandalous.

Im not happy about lockdown at all, I think he bottled it due to Germany and France closing, they should have waited, although hospital beds in some area are at maximum? when the 4 weeks are over areas will go back on Tiers so if what the rate keeps falling in Liverpool and Manchester you will be back on Tier 2 or maybe even 1 so back to work, I said it previously on the thread they were engaging with individual areas regarding the top up packages but now for 4 weeks its a blanket approach and will then revert back, people need to get it into their heads we could be on Tiers for a long time, so the South will be on 67% at some point don’t you worry about that!
