Aw, I agree. My FB stream was full of people putting pics of their parents and grandparents all being vaccinated with massive smiles on their faces. I know the immediate future is still very uncertain with regards to how effective the vaccine is and whether it actually stops transmission but its the first time I've seen a lot of genuine smiles and hopes for months......and its priceless

Coronavirus: BMW, Honda and Toyota suspend UK car production

[The UK car industry is slowly grinding
to a halt after BMW, Toyota and Honda said
they would temporarily shut down
their UK factories because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Nissan and Vauxhall have already closed
plants amid falling sales and a lack
of parts caused by the epidemic.
Jaguar Land Rover is expected to halt
production in the coming days.
In North America, Ford and General Motors
are among the firms also shutting
factories due to the virus.

Netherlands: 3 guests at christmas dinner, and tougher measures are on the cards but not yet

Vaccinations

Health minister Hugo de Jonge said that the first delivery of vaccines will now be in the first week in January rather than December, but that every effort is geared towards starting the mass vaccination programme as soon as possible.

In addition, fewer vaccines will be delivered in the first instance than had been hoped, in line with the European ‘fair shares’ approach, he said.

‘Nevertheless, it is a complicated puzzle,’ De Jonge said. The European Medicines Agency has to approve the vaccine for each particular group and that too may change the approach the Netherlands takes, he said.

‘It will be the summer before everyone is vaccinated, but at the same time, we must be wary of that “we’re almost there feeling”,’ the minister said.

No apologies from me for my strong words here even at this time.

This is good positive moves forward at last.
I again congratulate all, all over all Nations who have fought to develop this vaccine.

I also give credit to the government for as rapid a roll out, in a planned way too.

However, my dismay remains at our death rate all through this pandemic and how we've gone back to thousands more deaths weekly in the second wave again too.
Even on the government's ridiculous only recording official deaths of covid as those occurring 28 days from diagnosis.

I have no liking for Piers Morgan, he has however ripped apart Gove this morning.
If Gove performs in a public inquiry the way he did in that interview this morning.
The only conclusion could be, in my opinion, this government has been deceitful and incompetent all through.

It should be a strong public inquiry, there are hoards of groups representing those who have lost loved ones unnecessarily in the UK.
With all the strong evidence and information those relatives and groups have.

The inquiry must be fully open and take in all accounts of all the groupings who have and are, gathering the factual substantiated information and evidence of what assisted by incompetence of those in power, this virus to destroy families by the losses of their loved ones unnecessarily, leaving those families crushed and devastated.

The way Gove was this morning, fills me with great hope and even confidence that those conducting a public inquiry, will see through this PM's and his Ministers deceit certainly in the first wave.
However too, still presiding over way too many losses of lives in the second wave.

I'm not sure this PM may want to be PM when this inquiry is running and concluded.
Because it's clear to me, all we've had from him and government Ministers is deceit.
Deceit now stemming from their incompetence.

This vaccine is wonderful news, definitely and while it will save lives and protect families now from losing more loved ones before their time.
It is not a redemption for this PM and his government.
Where in dealing with the pandemic, HE and THEY CHOSE, yes chose, to exclude and do all their way only.
Dismissing science, health experts and other elected representatives of the Nation too.

They chose that path, the buck stops at the PM and his Ministers door.
No other door.

Just as Iraq with Blair.
I think, and hope too, this PM will never be allowed by a majority after the public inquiry to ever shake of the rightful shame he and his ministers should feel at the end results pre the vaccine, of this pandemic.

Just highlights Gove's great ignorance even more does that..

He looked and sounded being deliberately deceitful.
Sorry isn't a word this PM or his Ministers think they should say, never mind actually say it.
So that was no surprise.

However he had no answers to the factual points Morgan was putting to him.
To me, if he remains so, this deliberately deceitful in a public inquiry, will easily help said inquiry to further rightly condemn these Ministers for their dangerous incompetence, with the catastrophic losses of lives of others loved ones to be laid at their doors too.

https://www.thelocal.de/20201209/mer...y-break-record

Germany: Merkel demands tougher curbs as covid-19 deaths breaks daily record of nearly 600

Quote:
"When Glühwein (mulled wine) stands are being built, when waffle stands are being built, that's not compatible with what we had agreed of only takeaways for food and drinks," she told parliament, in reference to traditional German Christmas markets.

"I am really sorry from the bottom of my heart... but if the price we pay is 590 deaths a day then then that, in my view, is not acceptable."

"We must do everything we can to ensure that we do not again experience exponential growth," said Merkel, in her emotional speech before the debate on the budget.

Germany has ordered far less stringent shutdown rules than other major European nations after coming through the first wave of the pandemic relatively unscathed.

But Europe's biggest economy has been severely hit by a second wave with daily new infections more than three times that of the peak in the spring.

Not to Brexiteer, but that only really matters if they're produced or manufactured in the EU which they probably won't be.
