McConnell said off the record yesterday he was happy about the impeachment because it gives them a chance to wash the stain if trump off them, so i don't think he would have said that if he wasn't looking to convict.

But i'd trust him to act on that as far as I could throw him, plus we don't know how many Republicans will side with Trump over Mitch.

The best thing Republicans could do now is to impeach, bleed for a few years and rebuild as a more moderate party. I don't think that last thing will likely happen though, there's too much lobbying money in sucking off the Evangelicals.
