Ahaha. I remember much fuss being made over Putin apparently giving 'untested vaccines' to his daughters or something? Need to start watching the mainstream news again I think really, but it depressed the **** out of me as they seem to NEVER have any good news. And good news, is turned into more doom and gloom by the way its spun. I see bits every now and again..and it seems the same. Except there are periods of 'we are amazing, we are doing much better than everyone else with the rollout!' inbetween...swiftly followed by 'but our vaccines might not work on half the mutations'...

Germany: government dampens hopes of relaxing lockdown ahead of crunch wednesday talks Health Minister Jens Spahn said the federal government would resist any attempts by state leaders to start loosening the measures “until we are clearly under an incidence of 50 (new infections per 100,000 residents in seven days)". Speaking on the talk show Anne Will, Spahn said that he could give no-long term perspective for a loosening of the rules. “I know that everyone wants a six-month plan but that’s impossible in this pandemic.” Economy Minister Peter Altmaier backed up this position, saying that “it would not be responsible to take concrete steps at this stage - the numbers are still too high.” As infection rates continue to fall nationwide, three state leaders presented plans over the weekend for a step-by-step re-opening of the country. The Robert Koch Institute reported a seven day incidence of 76 per 100,000 people for Monday, down from a peak of 198 just before Christmas. The plans, which were sent out to other state leaders by the minster presidents of Thuringia, Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony, lay out criteria for opening up schools and small businesses like hairdressers. While each plan was slightly different, they appealed for a nationwide strategy that would consider not only the infection rate, but also intensive care occupancy, the vaccine quota and the rate at which the virus is spreading Some state leaders are strictly opposed to relaxing the measures at a time when there is still uncertainty about the prevalence of mutated strains of the virus. “It is annoying to have to take everything so slowly, but that is the only thing that really helps. Our challenger - the virus - doesn’t stick to any of the deadlines we set,” said Bavarian leader Markus Söder on Sunday. Schools will be big topic One of the major themes at the Wednesday meeting of state leaders with Chancellor Angela Merkel will be the reopening of schools. At the last meeting in January, several states angrily resisted Merkel’s plan to keep schools closed but in the end had to concede defeat. On Monday the federal Education Minister, Anja Karliczek, will publish a hygiene concept which her ministry says will allow schools to stay open even during the pandemic. "We need an ambitious plan so that we can help the children and young people," Karliczek said. "After all, it's not just about imparting knowledge, but very much about developing their personalities and enabling social interaction." According to press reports, the plan will mean that children will go to school in shifts, thus lowering crowding on buses. They will also have to wear masks at all times.

Oh for sure. They all have some degree of effectiveness, and some degree is better than none. So if people can get booked for ANY they are both helping themselves, and the NHS really.

Is the SA one of the 'superspreader' ones?
I remember being a bit puzzled, when the kent (? I think, where it was thought it was more spreadable but not as 'bad') one was taking over...think it was like 50% of positive cases were the UK variant...and it was panic stations. Where to me, a version that spreads easier, but is less likely to cause severe infection is LESS of an issue? And it would have been better for the 'UK variant' to totally take over? That was early on in the 'UK' thing though. When it was basically assumed that the mutations would act like usual virus mutations do, and become more spreadable, but less deadly. From memory, a few months later Boris claimed that the 'UK variant' was actually 20% more deadly or something. But tbh, I am sure thats to cover up his own failings over xmas, as I have been 'assured'(in a much as 'my training/education says this, no 100% positivity!) by a friend who works in virology that 'generally speaking', viruses do not want to kill their hosts, its counterproductive. So mutations make it spread more, but lessen the deadly effects. Long story short (sorry, in paragraph mode again) it seemed weird to think it was a BAD thing, for more to catch it bu less people have it badly? I guess it would look bad for our 'statistics'...but overall, seemed a positive. This was though, I stress, when they were saying it was likely less dangerous. Not after they added on,more spreadable and more deadly!!! Which appears to be a bit of an anomaly, virus wise |

I think it might be best to...do the second lot on thse who are high risk first though really. Before doing less risky people, if that makes sense? Especially in the under 50s, healthy people. Its not likely it will be too much of an issue to them, get high risk people sorted first? I mean, I know you Can get it badly if unlucky, but its a bit of an anomaly overall it seems. Once 'the vulnerable' are done, then yeah, give it out like smarties. Edit. Read that wrong. Read it as anyone under 70...point still stands though, if they are on about moving onto other groups before finishing high risk.. Last edited by Vicky.; 08-02-2021 at 07:55 PM. |

Have they released, detailed stats? I am very interested in the much parrotted stat on facebook and the media seemingly, that 15% BAME people are turning it down? I would think if total takeup is 90% then...the people not in the BAME group who are turning it down are around, or less than 5%? Not sure if that works mathswise, it seems to! Edit. No it doesnt add up...but yeah, wondering if turndown rae is a certain age of BAME people, and if it actually differs from non BAME, or if the media is making a fuss out of nothing again like usual.. Fair enough.. no offence intended . Just thought it made more sense to have a thread with just news and updates with regards to the UK and one for the rest of Europe or rest of the World even .. I come in here and just start ploughing through all the posts and then suddenly realise I’m reading one that is referring to the situation in a completely different country ![]() No worries though ..
