Zizu, if you feel uncomfortable 'asking for special treatment'...honestly, just say you were contacted to isolate. They can't prove you weren't, and while its not exactly honest, your mental health, and health in general is more important than a white lie told to an employer who refuses to be flexible tbh.

The way they are conitnually claiming schools are 100% safe is bizarre really. Of course they aren't..even with thousands of measures in place, nowhere is completely safe. But even less so, schools given..well they are basically huge germ factories to begin with.

...Zizu, I have t read back through the posts completely but there are surely tasks you can do that won’t involve pupil contact/classroom work....and which you would feel less vulnerable doing...and honestly, it isn’t asking for any special treatment to have specific staff individual risk assessments done...

...the thing about schools as well...(....as a generalisation, obviously...)...is that, although they're reopening and obviously need to be staffed...one year into this, they are also very understanding of mental health effects and concerns and worries etc...none of us could ever have imagined, when we first experienced school closures last year...there is a better understanding from school management teams now also...

Yes the main defence are those pretty useless LFD test kits that were shown to be around 48% accurate IF administered by a trained adult ... these being done at home , presumably by a decent % of pupils doing their own will be even less accurate/reliable.

As regards telling a ‘white lie’ to my bosses ... it’s not something I could ever do plus I’ve already set things in motion by email so it would look very ‘suspicious’ if I said I’d been contacted by track and trace ..

Thanks anyways though ..

I genuinely hope things get sorted for you somewhat. I find the way school staff have been treat throughout this..criminal tbh.

...if you told ‘ a white lie’, I personally fear that it might add to your worries, Zizu...well, not add to them as such because some immediate ones wouldn’t be there...but it would just create a new set to replace them, you know....

...yeah, there’s that as well, Vicky...but for many school staff, it’s also more a vocation and comparable to medical staff...not for all roles and staff, obviously but for many...

I agree

It’ll be fine ...

I’m now resigned to the possibility that I may be expected in next Monday which would give me 12.5 days of vaccine cover ..

So if I continue to be ultra careful and maybe wear a mask under a snood in the classroom I may be ok ..

There’s still the chance they will allow me to work from home until next Wednesday as I’ve requested and that would be even safer ..

Oh I know this.

Its the...'schools are totally safe with no mitgation besides added handwashing'. 'Kids dont tend to get ill so schools are fine'..stuff like that that I think is a bloody disgrace. And the refusal to vaccinate teachers 'earlier' than their age band, that a few friends who work in schools are worried about. That could potentially be area rather than universal though..

Theres so much focus on NHS staff/other keyworkers (as there should be mind, not moaning about that part) meanwhile, teachers are told to just get on with it. Just seems teachers have been utterly ignored, and their safety totally disregarded...because kids are 'safe'.

Edit. Not blaming schools for that^ . Its the government, not the schools.

...yeah, I totally understand and I’m sure you have the mindset and thought process of it being your children who you would feel as though you were ‘letting down’ and that your colleagues are all feeling the same so you wouldn’t want any ‘special treatment’ that they’re not given...but you really wouldn’t be being given any that others aren’t because every member of a schools staff will also have individual risks to be assessed as well, even when that assessment is minimal risk...so if you feel that you can speak to your Head at all or line manager, then it’s something to think of also because there may be some non contact tasks you can do or continue working from home for a bit longer, as you say...there are always so many things to do in a school that can be done out of the classroom and with no pupil contact etc....

this is worth it I guess. Definitely no sleeping when going back to work soon so I guess I gotta make the most of it. I don’t normally like sleeping in but I just had to today.

Very encouraging "wednesday numbers" for both cases and deaths in Scotland (the day of the week with peak numbers, almost always);

17th Feb new cases 1121, deaths 64

24th Feb new cases 798, deaths 47

3rd March new cases 500, deaths 24

well Czech Republic is looking quite badly at the moment

with well over 8.000 total of hospitalisations, ICU's filled up, and Poland has provided some support for them, how they can move several patients to some of their hospitals

Czechs can use all support they can get now

...and definitely not much sleeping when you hopefully have that holiday this summer.....at least it’s the vaccine that’s dictating to you atm and not so much the virus... a great thing, eh.....

It's interesting that the deaths seem to be dropping (slightly) faster than overall infections - which could be because of vulnerable groups being vaccinated first (so a smaller proportion of new infections resulting in deaths).
