SIR – Could Boris Johnson stop calling the EU our European friends? It has repeatedly demonstrated it is not.

To block life-saving vaccines because it didn’t get its own orders in time, to propose stealing the patent and to stop exports under Article 122 all show the EU for what it is.

First time deaths have gone up a week on, although likely just an anomaly because the number of people in hospitals is 33% down as is the number of people on ventilators as expected, meaning the statistics are staying the same, as death rises would follow after a rise of hospital admissions and ventilators

hope measures aren't being eased too much in UK

i mean, it is fab that 28 million have had their first dose, however it only prevents you from landing in hospital (or on ventilator)

they should still be very careful, since these people can still get the virus and spread it onto those who are unvaccinated

but i guess you could think of reopening some things now for economy sake (but under strict health protocols) for example Zoo's who have been struggling in coronacrisis, but with strict rules i mean washing hands with special handgel, still wearing of face masks and distancing

so yeah Boris good luck for press conference, hope you and your team made the right decisions

We have to open up, we've been on lockdown for three months now.
I think we'll be ok.
As long as we keep vaccinating hospitals won't be overrun.

[17:15 :Antibodies are holding up - but autumn booster
jabs may be needed

Tim from Northampton asks a question about
how long antibodies last for and if it means
that vulnerable groups vaccinated first will
need to be prioritised for a second
vaccination cycle before young people
have even had their first jab.

Sir Patrick Vallance says in general
antibody levels are "holding up".

He says: "We don't know exactly how long
because obviously people haven't been
vaccinated for a very long period.
So you may see some slight decline.
But on the whole, antibody levels are holding up."

He says there will be a need to think about booster jabs in the autumn.]

Yes, I think a booster jab is a good idea.
It would avoid a winter wave.

How though ... it’s gonna take about 6 months to vaccinate everyone who needs it .. we can’t just physically vaccinate everyone with a new jab in October

I think vulnerable people should definitely get it.
Won't be possible for everyone, I think.

elderly and vulnerable should again get priority, otherwise you would still go back to numbers in a surge again

Netherlands: press conference starts in a moment

all hopes for easing of measures has gone away now sadly with this third wave

so will be a depressing press conference for the people here
