Default Parliament Vote Passed Today on Extending Covid Rules another 6 Months

Now many Conservative MP's
are against this extension.

But Labour have been instructed to Vote for the Bill.

So it is expected to Pass the Vote
thanks to Labour.

Vote Soon.

I agree there's no harm having in place this policy to deal with whatever may arise.

Although I'd prefer to see some stronger criticism of things needing to be criticised by Starmer and Labour.
I agree it was best to support this vote, not that Cons will appreciate that.

The opposition Party/ Parties are NOT however there to give blank cheques to a government and certainly NOT this horrendous one.

By labour leadership I would imagine - it's usual for leadership to take a "party line" and then most will fall in line, though of course sometimes people "cross the floor" and vote against their standard party line.

I dont think this is about the restrictions on the public...its the government having the power to pass laws without them having to go 'the long way' by votes and such.

I would be shocked if they ever give this up willingly tbh. Thats not a dig at the tories either, as I doubt any party would want to give up the extra power

Them having the power to stop people being out in public, and to restrict movement within the country, really has to go ASAP regardless. As a very, very temporary measure to get a handle on the worst of the pandemic yes maybe it was necessary but it really is quite mind-bogglingly oppressive and not something we want them to have the power to implement long term. I fear that it may be too late on that one though.
