I know in the UK you don't have the same "relationship" with your Prime Ministers but in France we have a strong tradition for Presidents and a specific level of respect for them (well, we beheaded a King but you get the point). From what I can read right now in different places (Twitter being one of them, I know I shouldn't read it...), our French leaders say "You can't attack physically a politician, epsecially the President". It goes beyong everything democracy stands for.

…I was waiting to hear your take on this because it is pretty terrifying as well and just such an intolerable thing to happen….it’s how vulnerable Macron was that this could have happened to him and obviously could have been something quite horrendous in terms of injury if there was other intent there….
