Default Israel new unity government Prime Minister Naftali Bennett

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-57336574

[Naftali Bennett would be PM until August 2023
Israeli opposition parties have reached an
agreement to form a new government that
would end Benjamin Netanyahu's 12-year tenure
as prime minister.

Yair Lapid, leader of the centrist Yesh Atid party,
announced an eight-faction unity coalition had been formed.
Under a rotation arrangement,
the head of the right-wing Yamina party,
Naftali Bennett, would serve as prime minister
first before handing over to Mr Lapid.
There still needs to be a parliamentary vote before
the government is sworn in.]

Disgrace. Win the election if you want to take power.

We can only hope it's an improvement over that prick, Netanyahu, but I doubt whoever takes over will be much better. Israel has fallen victim of right wing extremism, and the path they're on now began with the assassination of Rabin. Right Wing extremists didn't want peace and they killed for it, and now one of their biggest sympathisers has held the PM position for years.

If this government change goes through, they'll likely have to legitimise the government by calling an election afterwards and I can only assume they'll lose.

its a strange group they have collected together, that's sole aim was to get the man out of power

As I understand it, the new PM is even more right wing and he gets a couple of years to do his thing, so people should be careful what they wish for

…I’m not familiar enough with Israel/Palestine to become involved in any discussion …but I am going to re-post something I read in another discussion which to me seems to depict the complications….

‘If you study the conflict for 1 hour the Israeli's are clearly right. If you study the conflict for a dozen hours the Palestinians are clearly right. If you study it any longer, you no longer know who is right.’

…discussions on other sites, seem to be with similar points to have been said here at various times…if as said, anyone doesn’t realise that they’re being perceived as anti-Semitic in anything they’re said…then it’s most unfair and unreasonable not to explain that and the reasons why as even to those who are more familiar it appears to have many unique complications in understanding, let alone discussing…

The problem with this description of the issue, Ammi, is it's purely to avoid having to act on it. No one now says that If you study the issue for 1 hour, then white south Africans were clearly right.

What is happening in Israel (according to the UN, and Jewish Israeli human rights groups) is apartheid.

…I honestly don’t understand enough to comment, it just seemed like a fair comment to describe that it’s a complicated issue and talking point…?..I came across the comment because I am trying to understand more, but it does seem to be something that I still can’t get a real understanding for…and there are such diverse opinions obviously as it’s a loss of life situation and horrendous for everyone living it…

…just edited to say…but yeah, I get your analogy and point with South Africa….I’m just not knowledgable enough to comment on any of it…

This is exactly where i am on the whole subject. I can't comment on either side, i just know the loss of life and suffering is utterly tragic.

I agree to an extent, and that on the surface it is a completely legitimate statement for someone to have made. It's not an accident that people are confused because a lot of work has been put in to make it this way.

Let me give you an example of what's currently happening on the ground there.

Palestinian neighbourhoods are being levelled so that Jewish settlers can come and take more of their land - which is more of what they've been doing and is completely illegal. Palestinians have been given the option to either bulldoze their own homes with nowhere to go, or wait for the Israeli government to come and bulldoze their homes (still nowhere to go), but now Israel will invoice them for the bulldozing work just to rub it in. That's the kind of human rights abuse and cruelty that the world is standing by and allowing to happen.

Israel only allow a few hours of water and electricity per day for their walled in Palestinian subjects.

Too bad it's led by right wing extremism which, as many political observers say, will not last long. But any change from Netanyahu is, at this moment, most welcome. And 12 years is long enough. Change needs to happen from time to time in a democracy to keep it alive and going well.

Regarding the conflict itself, I'm aligned with Ammi and Swan. You can watch 58 documentaries and read a thousand books that you can't just get a full picture of who is right or wrong. It's incredibly touchy on so many levels. The loss of life is indeed by far the most tragic part of it.

…and the Hamas terrorist group involvement..?….one of the things that I also read was that there is so much propaganda from both sides, which complicates it even further as to being able to find truth to try to form thoughts….is there any reading/sites that you would recommend as being quite informative for a beginner as it were…?…

…we had a member, y.winter…I say ‘had’ only because he stopped posting a while ago…he was an Israeli living in Israel and from my recollection he made some quite informative posts …and he also would comment on the complications of the situation there, himself….

I would recommend Andrew Feinstein - he's Jewish and lost most of his family to Nazi camps, and he then grew up in South African Apartheid and worked as a politician to end it, so in terms of having all of his bases covered, I don't think you will find many like him.
