Default Autumn or winter (proper)?

Which part of the broad autumnal-winter seasonal half do you prefer: the first part (Halloween up until Christmas/the new year) or the core bulk of actual winter (January/February)?

I know that winter technically starts around 21 December but everything up until the new year kind of falls under the banner of Christmas so it doesn’t feel as grim as it does when all the excitement/festivities have worn off.

Autumn for me.

Blustery weather, the dark and cosy night and the festivities for Halloween/Bonfire night plus the big run up to Christmas.

I used to love winter when I was a kid but now I’m terrified of ice and snow after falling a few years ago so nah. Autumn.

Has to be Autumn for me, favourite season of the year.
If we get plenty of winter snow then I am a very happy winter person as well.

I don’t mind the part of winter that’s contained to December for the reasons I stated in my OP. But once all the excitement’s worn off winter is a grim season (not necessarily because of the weather). I know you’re supposed to budget carefully at the Christmas season and not spend beyond your means but even if you do manage to remain relatively in-pocket until your January pay-check virtually everyone else is broke and managing bread and noodles alone until their next pay-check. Doesn’t make for much fun when you want to go out and actually do stuff with your mates.

I love the bright-but-crisp sun in the sky, and brown and crunchy leaves which cover my street

Generally, my favourite "section" of the year is Halloween, lead-up and day of Christmas, and then the void between Christmas and New Year.

I liked Autumn when the kids were smaller with the excitement of Halloween and Bonfire night etc. but in Covid times it's all just a bit bleak & sad

Autumn is still my favourite season and period.

I love long walks on Autumn mornings with my Staffie.

Just something special about Autumn there always has been for me.

Is there anyone in the world who likes Jan-Mar, they're by far the worst months of the year, cold, wet and nothing good happens and everyone is broke after Christmas

No because even when everyone’s in-pocket (which in reality never happens in January) it’s still a grim time of year with nothing to look forward to until (if you’re like me) summer.

Easter and Valentine’s are passable but dull events for me so it takes me months to feel any kind of anticipatory excitement for anything at all.

Spring and summer

Last night driving back home at 8.30 it was pitch dark and rain and half my journey is no streetlights and the danger of flipping deer

I much prefer the light nights and not fighting with snow and minus 20

Yeah, I'm with you on that as well but Oct-Dec isn't too bad because it more festive plus we've already had months of long days and sunshine

Exactly. I’m not much of a summer fan anyway.

Autumn's my favourite seasonal weather personally.

Not too hot, not too cold.

Sonnet 73 (‘That time of year thou mayst in me behold’)
William Shakespeare

That time of year thou mayst in me behold
When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang
Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,
Bare ruin’d choirs where late the sweet birds sang.
In me thou seest the twilight of such day
As after sunset fadeth in the west,
Which by and by black night doth take away,
Death’s second self, that seals up all in rest.
In me thou seest the glowing of such fire
That on the ashes of his youth doth lie,
As the death-bed whereon it must expire,
Consum’d by that which it was nourished by.
This thou perceiv’st which makes thy love more strong,
To love that well which thou must leave ere long.
