This has been going on for years - they also are known to significantly “lighten” the skin tone of mixed race characters on posters to make it more “tan” than anything resembling black.
However it’s hardly surprising, given that darker-skinned Chinese people often bleach their own skin to be lighter. Darker skin in China (and a lot of East Asia overall) is thought of as “common/lower class” and using makeup or cosmetic procedures to “hide” it is quite common. |

Zumi Zimi Zami

so?
never heard of that actress myself at least they got all of the main cast on the poster, really doubt a unknown actress like she is would really also have a huge role in this film

POW! BLAM!

Is anyone surprised?
Hollywood taking the knee to China and dumbing down movies to appease that market is bad enough, how long do you give it before they stop actually casting black people? |

If they're so against diversity then they might aswell not show the movie atall , they mock anyone with darker skin. There's people over there lightening and bleaching their skin , it's crazy . Does anyone remember this disgusting advert that circled the internet a few years ago . |

Oh it was a big thing a few years back, mainly on international news and people on YouTube reacted to it. I never saw it mentioned on UK mainstream though.
But I don't think anything will ever be done ,as the attitudes are so backwards and ignorant. And as mentioned ... China has a very small population of black people ,or anyone with darker skin for that matter . Their slogans are stuck in 19th century of 'white and fair ' being somehow better and healthier looking . People have actually bleached their skin to get jobs, it's insane and unhealthy. |

IIRC they also did a different Star Wars poster for China, not removing Fin but swapping him from a large place at the front, to one of the characters hidden towards the back.
They tried to explain away the reasoning but it's fairly evident they were worried about "scaring away" Chinese cinemagoers. |
